Establish Rosa Parks' Birthday as a Federal Holiday
The Issue
I am a direct descendant of Rosa Parks, and her teachings have had a profound impact on my life. Her courage and determination continue to inspire hundreds of thousands of people today, making it clear that her legacy deserves to be honored with more than just words.
The Direct Descendants of Rosa McCauley Parks are in full agreement and support of February 4th: we believe only February 4th would send the appropriate message to the nation, world and young people: of her unique importance. The direct descendants and their nonprofit www.alwaysmorerosa.org are spearheading this initiative from Atlanta GA. We ask that any Lawmakers who have brought this proclamation to the floor of their respective states (for different dates such as December 1st or December 5th) join us in our push for February 4th instead.
Rosa McCauley Parks, known as the "mother of the civil rights movement," made history on December 1, 1955 when she refused to give up her seat for a white passenger on a Montgomery bus. This act sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott which lasted for over one year and led to significant changes in our society's laws regarding segregation.
Despite being an iconic figure in American history, there is no federal holiday dedicated solely to any woman in our nation's history. Making Rosa Parks' birthday (February 4th) a federal holiday would not only honor this remarkable woman but also rectify this gender imbalance in our national holidays.
AMR would also like all city buses to be wrapped in approved art work/photos as well as waiving bus fair on Rosa Parks Day with a font seat left empty for her.
By signing this petition, you are supporting the recognition of Rosa Parks' immense contribution towards racial equality and justice. You are advocating for celebrating her life and achievements at the national level every year on February 4th - an act that will inspire future generations about standing up against injustice.
Let us honor Rosa Parks by making her birthday a Federal Holiday! Please sign this petition today!
