Establish Grandparents' Rights to Visitation in Kentucky

Establish Grandparents' Rights to Visitation in Kentucky
The Issue
I am a grandparent from Kentucky, and like many others, I am facing an unfortunate situation where I have been denied the right to see my own grandchild. My personal story began when my daughter filed harassment charges against me for posting a picture holding my granddaughter the day she was born. In attempting to guide her as a parent, advising her on life choices and responsibilities , I found myself facing court proceedings with a no-contact order in place. This has resulted in me being unable to see my granddaughter at all.
This is not just about me; it's about all grandparents who are unjustly kept away from their grandchildren due to familial disputes or misunderstandings. It's also about the children who miss out on the love and wisdom that grandparents can provide.
In Kentucky alone, there are thousands of grandparents who face similar situations every year. According to data from The Annie E Casey Foundation (2019), 96,000 children in Kentucky live with their grandparents - that's 7% of all kids in our state! Yet despite this significant number, there is currently no clear legal provision allowing us as grandparents the right to petition for visitation rights.
We believe it is time for change. We call upon lawmakers in Kentucky to establish clear laws granting us as grandparents the right to seek court-ordered visitation rights with our grandchildren when circumstances warrant it. Our aim is not only protecting our rights but also ensuring that our grandchildren don't suffer due to unreasonable parental decisions.
Please join us by signing this petition today and help bring justice for countless loving grandparents across Kentucky!
