Establish Government-Funded Pet Hospitals and Pet-E-Care for Affordable Animal Care

The issue

My name is the face of a struggle that thousands of pet owners across the nation are grappling with - the inability to afford emergency and surgical care for our pets. With a family of six furry companions, each day brings joy but also lurking fear of unforeseen medical emergencies. We love our pets just as we do our children, yet the financial strain of veterinary care often forces low-income individuals and elderly citizens like myself to make heartbreaking decisions.

Picture this: in America alone, it's estimated that over 85 million families have at least one pet (American Pet Products Association, 2020). However, without access to affordable healthcare for our beloved animals, too many find themselves considering euthanasia to spare their pets from pain they can't afford to cure. This needn't be the reality.

Just as humans have Medicare, our pets should have access to Pet-E-Care - a government-funded system that will make emergency care and surgeries more affordable. It could also include the provision of payment plans, offering alternatives for many pet parents who face a lack of such options at local vets.

Furthermore, for many people, including the elderly, disabled, or those with mental health issues, pets provide invaluable emotional support. Government-funded vet hospitals could ensure these critical companions receive the health care they require without burdening their owners.

Indeed, we do not euthanize our children due to lack of funding for life-saving operations. Let's extend the same ethos of life and care to our pets. They deserve nothing less.

Please, sign this petition to urge the government to build community-funded hospitals for pets and initiate Pet-E-Care, thus making pet healthcare affordable for all citizens.
