She never asked for cancer, nor did she wish this upon herself. Yet, despite her long years of dedicated service, she is not granted full pay during her treatment. She deserves full pay for the entirety of her service, just like any other person bravely battling cancer.

Unfortunately, the current law in the United Kingdom does not guarantee employees diagnosed with cancer the right to full pay while receiving treatment. This systemic problem affects countless individuals who must endure financial stress on top of their health battle. A 2019 Macmillan Cancer Support report highlights that an estimated 100,000 people in the workforce are dealing with cancer, many of whom face a significant drop in income due to insufficient sick pay. This economic burden can have devastating effects, leading to financial instability and worsening mental health during an already trying time.

We propose a new law ensuring that employees in the United Kingdom have the right to full pay during their cancer treatment, proportionate to their length of service. This change would help alleviate the financial burden, allowing them to focus on recovery without the added worry of economic hardship.
