Establish Free-to-Use Designated Areas for Hoon/Burnout Activities in the south metro area

The issue

I believe it is time to address the “hooning” issue more efficiently and make room for enthusiasts without infringing upon public safety. The solution? Establishing a free-to-use designated “hoon/burnout” area that legitimates this style of driving while ensuring public roads are safer for all users.

In Australia for instance, statistics show that dangerous driving offenses, including hooning, contribute to around 14% of all traffic fatalities (Australian Road deaths Database). This is a clear indicator that engaging in such activities on public roads endangers lives and incurs unnecessary costs to society. By establishing designated areas for this purpose, we can control and regulate these activities, ensuring they are performed in a safer environment. This approach has proven successful in countries like Japan, where an organized and structured framework exists for anyone wishing to engage in acts of 'drifting' or other forms of 'hoon' driving (Japan Times).

The goal of this petition isn't to ban hoon/burnout activities outright, but rather, give enthusiasts a safe and legal space where they can engage in these activities. This proposal aims to reduce the rate of traffic accidents, cut the costs of law enforcement and court proceedings related to hoon cases, and finally, satisfy a community of enthusiasts. Let's make our roads safer without suppressing the rights of individuals to enjoy their hobbies responsibly. Please, sign this petition to help create these free-to-use designated areas for hoon/burnout activities.
