The Issue

As America builds more data centers, a  share of the money should go into a national savings fund. That fund helps pay for senior housing and gives  Americans an extra monthly check that stacks on top of Social Security income and is built to out pace inflation.

In simple terms: when big data centers make money, a percentage goes into a national savings fund. That fund helps pay for safe housing and care for seniors, and sends extra monthly checks to Americans next to, not instead of, Social Security income.

By 2030, every person of the baby boomer generation will be age 65 or older, marking one of the most significant demographic shifts in American history. The U.S. Census Bureau projects that roughly one in five Americans will be of retirement age. (Census.gov)

At the same time, America faces growing pressure to provide enough senior housing, long-term care, and qualified workers to support an aging population. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects approximately 765,800 openings for home health and personal care aides each year from 2024 through 2034. (Bureau of Labor Statistics)

America needs a new source of long-term wealth.

Data centers are becoming essential infrastructure for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, financial services, healthcare, national security, and nearly every part of the modern digital economy. These facilities require enormous investments in land, electricity, cooling systems, fiber infrastructure, and real estate and can generate long-term economic value.

Congress should establish a U.S. Data Center Sovereign Wealth Fund that allows a portion of the economic value generated by data centers and other strategic alternative investments to build wealth for the American people.

The fund could invest and reinvest these revenues rather than simply spending them, creating a permanent national asset capable of compounding across generations.

Its mission should be simple:

Support senior care. Build American wealth. Invest in America’s future.

A portion of investment earnings could help expand senior housing, strengthen the senior-care workforce, and improve access to care for older Americans.

Another portion could help hardworking Americans build long-term savings and investment accounts, giving citizens a direct financial stake in the infrastructure and industries powering the next generation of the American economy.

This is not about opposing technology or taxing innovation out of existence.

It is about ensuring that as America builds the infrastructure of the future, American citizens participate in the wealth that infrastructure creates.

The United States has an opportunity to transform data centers, energy infrastructure, real estate, and other strategic assets into a permanent national investment portfolio capable of serving Americans for generations.

Our aging population should not become a national crisis.

Having benefited from this system, I believe our technological expansion should not benefit only a small group of corporations and investors.

We can connect the two.

Build the infrastructure. Invest the proceeds. Take care of our seniors. Build wealth for the next generation.

Join me in calling on Congress to create a U.S. Data Center Sovereign Wealth Fund and establish a new model of American ownership, investment, and long-term prosperity.
