Establish a Single-Payer Healthcare System in America – Healthcare for all Americans!
The Issue
Healthcare in America is extremely expensive. For example, the average cost of a vaginal birth is $13,024, and a simple trip to the doctor to get prescribed tylenol can cost one $100. Many Americans can’t afford these high prices, and as a result, some are going into debt while others are simply avoiding the doctor/receiving treatment. According to many studies, around 40% of U.S. adults claim that they have delayed or avoided medical care in the last year, simply because of cost. This is a grave problem because if people don’t receive the medical care they need, they could become very ill and possibly die.
Healthcare is especially expensive because there is a lack of regulation of prescription drug costs, so pharmacies can price their products at any price they want. A similar structure is present with medical treatments and services; there is a lack of competition for treatments in America, so hospitals can price their services at whatever price they want.
A single-payer healthcare system can solve this problem. With this type of system, a single payer (like the government, for example) would collect all health care fees and pay for all health care costs. All U.S. residents would be covered for all medical services, and for America overall, this type of system would reduce administrative costs by billions of dollars. With a system like this, all citizens would receive high-quality medical care and the freedom to choose providers without the pressure of how much a certain provider may cost them.
Healthcare prices are rapidly increasing. If immediate action is not taken, then it will only become harder for us to afford healthcare when we really need it in the future. Let us all suport a single-payer healthcare system in America so that everyone can protect their health and recieve the care they need.
