Grant Respite from Loadshedding Countrywide over Eid Festive Period

The Issue

Last year loadshedding was started unexpectedly ON the afternoon of the first Eid when every Muslim household had Eid dinner and other family traditions to attend to, with no warning.

Several home industries who cook and bake for Eid stand to lose their income at their peak time of doing business, heavily impacting their livelihoods.

For the entire month of Ramadaan to date this year, Muslims countrywide are affected by loadshedding at Suhoor and Iftaar time, left in the dark without being able to use a kettle, or microwave or electric stove to have a warm meal or hot beverage. These are the times before starting to fast when breakfast is had in the early morning, and the time when fast is broken and the first meal is had in the evening after several hours of fasting.
After having endured this, we would like to prepare for Eid and enjoy Eid, loadshedding-free from Thursday 20th April 2023, up to and including Sunday 23rd April 2023.

Other religious holidays as per the Gregorian calendar seem to be spared from loadshedding. Eskom seems to be oblivious of the Islamic calendar.
Despite requests for loadshedding to be stopped for the second Eid last year, it continued. Yet loadshedding was stopped for Christmas and New Year's weekend.
