The United States has a long history of providing a safe haven to the world's sick, poor, and huddled masses. The last few years have seen an influx of people who rely on that promise to legally seek asylum in this country. Rather than being given a haven, these people are separated from their families and corralled into detention centers at the border. These detention centers are not supplying people with adequate food or a guarantee of sanitary conditions.

We are calling on you, our elected representatives, to decry these practices as not aligned with Hoosier values, and to demand a solution to end the crisis. While we understand that not everyone can be granted American citizenship, it is absolutely imperative that everyone who comes here is afforded dignity throughout the process. We need you to let America know that Hoosiers will not rest while anyone, US citizen or not, is mistreated in our name.
