Epping Forest to supply Recycling Bins instead of Recycling Bags & Weekly Bin Collections

The Issue

Epping Forest Council residents currently use recycling bags to dispose of recyclable waste instead of recycling bins. Other boroughs, like Waltham Forest and Greenwich, have recycling bins, as well as, general waste and garden waste bins. Looking around and seeing clear bag of recycling waste on streets and outside peoples homes looks messy, disorganised and unsanitary. Bin collections are biweekly and not weekly so these bags at times can pile up, which is not nice to see and lowers the area’s appeal and standards.

If wheelie bins were used to replace the current recycling bag system this would take away the chaos and awful look of piled up bags of rubbish left outside on our streets! This would also make it easier for people to recycle or start recycling properly. Weekly bin collections would limit the overflow of waste! Many households have rubbish and recycling piling up as the collections of waste are not regular enough! General waste and recycling waste should be collected on a weekly basis, with garden/food waste being collected biweekly.

Sometimes bags are torn open by foxes in search of food and this means the contents of the bags are then spread along our streets. A large majority of residents do not have enough space in their homes to store their recycling inside until collection day for two weeks! We are in 2023 and the recycling systems should be changing to improve standards and the environment, and this can be done by providing wheelie bins for recycling and making refuse collection more frequent!

By supplying bins this also stops people outside of the borough collecting recycling bags free of charge making it harder for us living in the borough to obtain them. By supplying residents with recycling wheelie bins it would also make it far easier for disabled and elderly residents that are less able to get around to collect recycling bags when needed. Other boroughs have been using recycling wheelie bins for years and Epping Forest is still lagging behind in improving its recycling system for it’s residents!

Help make the streets of Epping Forest cleaner and tidier by signing the petition for Epping Forest Council to provide it’s residents with recycling wheelie bins and stop the use of recycling bags and collection days becoming more frequent.
