The Issue

It's simple - we must restore the feeling that doing a day's work for yourself, your family and your country matters.

The feeling that it's something to be proud of, contributing in whatever way to your country and community.

The feeling that the country values it.

The feeling that it's financially worth your while.

I asked the government to publish this petition via their website. They refused.  Apparently it's not clear exactly what is being asked for !

This is what I asked that we do :

Change the Tax and Welfare Systems to ensure WORK PAYS, particularly for low and middle income earners

The government is committed to ever higher welfare spending, funded by ever increasing taxation.

We call upon them instead to reduce personal taxation and reduce the overall welfare bill so that we can :

  • Encourage and fairly reward the strivers of this country
  • Encourage all who can to contribute to their society by working
  • Discourage welfare as a lifestyle choice
  • Properly support those in genuine need

 BACKGROUND

Government budget changes will raise tax paid even higher for many working people, but find the money to increase welfare payments still further.

Recent reports indicate that soon 1 in 4 workers in full time jobs would be better off staying at home on benefits - often by thousands of pounds.

This is madness !

Our tax and welfare systems have to show people that their work is valued and it has to be financially worth working - if not, more and more people will choose to stop.

We have to restore pride in work for your country - and fairly recompense those who set their alarm clocks each day and put the effort in.

Regular people doing regular jobs are the bedrock of this country. Without their contributions, it all crumbles.

It's time for change.

It seems pretty clear to me what the petition is calling for, but not apparently to our government.  They have refused to publish this petition - thank you to Change.org for supporting it.

Please help send a  message to this government that we think this matters - in fact, it's vital to the future of this country.

Please sign and share. Thank you.
