My heart aches every time I think of the book that unjustly portrays my late mother. This book cast her as the main character, spinning egregious lies, alleging everyone called her unkind names such as and wrongly proclaiming she pretended to be English, disregarding the fact that she was, indeed, English. The author claimed she was the local gossip, disrespectfully comparing her to the local post office, suggesting she was the hub of scandalous chatter. In reality, my mother was a dedicated woman who raised seven children on her own, a feat leaving her neither the time nor inclination for idle talk.He was jealous 2 family members were at university .He fabricates a story if his family being from the West Indies how his mother hated England and what it was like for him growing up .Every single person in the book he writes about is dead as he knows nothing can be done .He makes up untruths about Irish and English people and what they would do such as offer you a drink of water mixed with sugar but my carribean friends have said your more likely to get that from a West Indian family .Also stated white people boil nappies in a saucepan and would offer you a cup of tea from the same saucepan .My mum would cook food for the family as his dad gambled using the food money .His mum would sit in our kitchen as the husband had beaten her up he used false names for his family members but used my mothers name I cannot get over this as it’s lies 

Such falsehoods are not only hurtful to our family but tarnish the memory of a woman who was loving, resilient, and dignified. It is heartbreaking to think that authors can fabricate stories about the deceased without any repercussion or verification. These narratives become part of the public domain, potentially altering perceptions and misleading readers who trust these accounts are based on truth. Ethical storytelling principles must be enforced to protect the dignity of those who can no longer defend themselves and their families.

We urge lawmakers to implement strict guidelines and consequences for authors who deliberately spread false information about individuals who have passed away. These measures should ensure that any biographical or semi-biographical work must be supported by documented, verifiable evidence. When a writer chooses to represent a real person, especially one who has passed, they must do so truthfully and respectfully, reflecting an accurate portrayal that honours their legacy and respects their loved ones.

Moreover, we propose that publishers also take responsibility by implementing a fact-checking system before a book goes to print. This additional step would safeguard against misleading content, providing assurance for readers and peace of mind for surviving families.
