Ensure legal acceptance of gay marriage and protect Afghan children
The Issue
In Afghanistan, I have witnessed heart-wrenching situations that have moved me to start this petition. Every day, children are being trapped in horrific circumstances—innocent lives are subjected to forced marriages and exploitation by older men. These children are being robbed of their childhood and basic human rights. It is a grave injustice that this continues to happen in the 21st century.
Marriage should be an expression of love and commitment, yet in Afghanistan, so many are trapped in loveless, predatory relationships. While child marriages persist, consensual, loving relationships between adults of the same gender remain criminalized. This is a stark contradiction that defies humanity and common sense.
Gay marriage must be legalized not just in Afghanistan, but globally, to affirm that love knows no boundaries. Consensual, same-sex partnerships harm no one and denying these rights is as unjust as the child marriages that we must eradicate. Gay marriage represents the freedom to love whom you choose, a fundamental right deserving recognition and protection everywhere.
The Afghan government and international policymakers must act decisively. Laws making child pornography and child marriage illegal, and their enforcement, must be prioritized urgently. Simultaneously, we must work to legalize gay marriage to ensure that everyone has the right to marry who they love without fear of punishment or discrimination.
We call on governments worldwide to lead by example, using diplomatic channels and foreign aid leverage to press for changes in nations where these practices are still rampant. United Nations should strengthen international norms against child marriage and support the freedom of marriage choice. Resources should be channeled towards awareness programs and law enforcement training in countries grappling with these issues.
Your support in signing this petition can bring us closer to a future where love is celebrated equally, and children are protected from all forms of exploitation. Our collective voice can make a difference. Please sign and share this petition to affect change and uphold human dignity for all.
