Earlier today, my teacher informed us that as Grade 8 students, we will need to share computers with students from grades as low as 3. This news is quite disheartening, considering how crucial this year is for us. As it's our final year of elementary school, our academic requirements are more demanding than ever. We need access to digital resources and tools to support our learning and prepare us for high school.

Sharing computers means less time to complete assignments, conduct research, and work on projects. This leaves us at a disadvantage, especially since our curriculum this year emphasizes technology proficiency and computer-based learning. In contrast, younger grades typically do not have the same immediate need for extended computer use. Our situation isn’t just about fairness; it’s about ensuring we receive the education we need to succeed academically.

Statistics from the National Center for Education Statistics indicate that students with reliable access to technology outperform their peers in problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Furthermore, schools with 1:1 student-to-computer ratios report higher student engagement and achievement rates. Therefore, providing Grade 8 students with their own computers isn’t just beneficial—it’s essential.

We propose implementing a system where each Grade 8 student has access to a dedicated device for the academic year. In doing so, we can ensure uninterrupted learning and equitable access to educational tools, which are vital as we transition into higher education.
