Ensure accessible pathways for all in Everton, Liverpool
The Issue
My name is Jack Ince, a 15-year-old living with Cerebral Palsy in Everton, Liverpool. I started this campaign in 2025 because I believe in the fundamental human right to independence, especially for those with mobility challenges. Unfortunately, our community lacks sufficient drop curbs, making it extremely difficult for people like me to navigate our own neighbourhoods.
I face a constant struggle navigating the streets of Everton with my wheelchair. The local shop, community centre, and even the park are just a stone's throw away from my home—places that should be easily accessible. However, without drop curbs, I can't make those trips alone; my mum has to help me every time, limiting my independence and affecting my social development.
Everton and the greater Merseyside area are home to many residents with mobility needs. According to statistics from disability advocacy organisations, approximately 14 million people in the UK live with some form of disability, and infrastructure should cater to everyone's needs. The lack of proper access in our streets is a barrier to many young people and adults who deserve the dignity of moving around freely and independently.
To Liverpool City Council, I ask you to consider this not just as an infrastructural inconvenience but as a critical issue of equality and accessibility. We propose a strategic plan to systematically address the installation of drop curbs within Everton and Merseyside, prioritising high-traffic areas like shopping districts, community centres, and public transportation hubs.
By investing in these modifications, you'll dramatically improve the quality of life for countless residents and visitors. It will foster a sense of community, inclusivity, and respect for everyone's needs in our beautiful city.
Join me in advocating for a more accessible Everton by signing this petition. Let's work together to build a future where independence and mobility are a given, not a privilege. Your signature will make a powerful statement in urging our local leaders to act swiftly and effectively. Please sign and share this petition to help individuals like me regain our independence.
