Enhance Road Safety in Royal Avenue and Surrounding roads, Calcot
The Issue
My parents live on Royal Avenue, Calcot, where I spent my childhood. They are disabled and sometimes require urgent medical assistance. It deeply concerns me, as I know it does countless other families and elderly residents in the area, that the current parking situation poses an enormous risk to their health and well-being. Every week, the sheer volume of vehicles from St. Birinus Church and other local amenities leads to chaotic and unsafe conditions on our roads.
Vehicles block driveways, park across drop curbs, and engage in double parking, leaving limited access for emergency services and creating dangerous conditions for both pedestrians and drivers. The problem has reached such a magnitude that it has become a serious threat to road safety and the overall well-being of residents in the area.
Our peaceful community in Calcot deserves better. We urge the local council to take immediate action by implementing yellow lines on all roads in the vicinity, placing white lines off drop curbs, and designating certain areas as permit-holder parking zones. These measures are essential to managing the parking congestion and ensuring that our roads remain accessible and safe at all times, especially for emergency services.
According to recent statistics, Calcot's population has increased by almost 15% over the last decade, leading to higher vehicle usage and subsequent parking challenges. The existing parking infrastructure is outdated and inadequate for our current needs. By introducing structured parking regulations and road markings, we can prioritize the safety and well-being of our community.
