Enforce Traffic Restrictions on Winslow Rd

Enforce Traffic Restrictions on Winslow Rd
The Issue
Our historic neighborhood on Winslow Road in Shaker Heights, Ohio, which has a speed limit of just 25 mph, is painfully familiar with the issue of speeding traffic. The serenity of our community is being disrupted by drivers using our residential street as a shortcut between two major roads. This is not just an inconvenience; it's a serious risk to our families. Every day, countless cars speed through our neighborhood, ignoring the speed limit and turning our peaceful street into a danger zone. Parking on Winslow Rd is common, and yet drivers seem oblivious to the children playing nearby. The terrifying prospect of kids darting between parked cars into the path of speeding vehicles is a constant worry for every parent in our community. Our neighborhood should be a safe haven, not a pathway for impatient drivers.
A critical step to mitigate this ongoing problem is to request the implementation of a "Do Not Enter" regulation on Winslow Rd from Fransleigh during peak hours. We propose restricting traffic from 7:30 am to 9:00 am and again from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. These times correspond with school drop-off and pick-up hours when the density of children in the area is greatest.
The aim is simple: prioritize the safety of our children and restore the tranquility of our neighborhood. Implementing these time-specific traffic restrictions will effectively deter through traffic during the most vulnerable periods, significantly reducing the risk of accidents.
There have been precedents for such measures in similar communities, which have successfully enhanced safety and reduced traffic flow during critical times. A collective push toward these regulations is not just an action but a necessity for the well-being of our residents.
We urge the city of Shaker Heights to consider this petition seriously and take prompt action to enact these restrictions for the safety and peace of our community. Please sign this petition to help make Winslow Rd a safer place for everyone.
