Enforce Mandatory 2 Hours of Physical Education per Week in UK Schools
Enforce Mandatory 2 Hours of Physical Education per Week in UK Schools
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the decline of Physical Education (PE) within local secondary schools in Chesterfield, UK. Despite government guidelines recommending a minimum of 2 hours of quality PE per week, our schools are shortchanging our students, in some cases halving that time to just one lesson per week. The detrimental effect that inadequate physical activity has on our children's health, both physical and mental, is alarming. Numerous research studies have shown that regular physical activity can prevent obesity, boost mental wellbeing, improve academic performance, and foster essential life skills. Yet, our children are being denied these benefits due to a growing disregard for the importance of physical exercise in schools. Current statistics reveal that one-third of children in the UK are overweight by the time they leave primary school - a worrying trend that could be abated with adequate PE in schools. We demand that the Department for Education enforce its two-hours per week PE requirement in all schools throughout the UK, ensuring our children's right to a healthy and active education is upheld. Act now – for the health and future of our children. Please sign this petition.
