End the U.S. Ban on New DJI Products

End the U.S. Ban on New DJI Products
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call on the United States government and President Donald J. Trump to immediately review, suspend, and reverse the ban enacted on December 23, 2025, prohibiting the sale of new models of DJI drones, cameras, microphones, and related devices in the United States. Existing models can still be sold as long as current stock is still available. Any future models, parts, and software updates are banned in the United States.
This ban—stemming from provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act—harms American consumers, small businesses, creators, researchers, and public agencies without transparent evidence or the completion of the federal audit that was repeatedly promised.
1. Consumer Rights and Free Market Principles
American consumers have the right to choose lawful, high-quality technology in a competitive marketplace. DJI products have been legally sold in the U.S. for years and are trusted by millions of professionals and hobbyists.
A blanket ban enacted through the National Defense Authorization Act:
Eliminates consumer choice without due process
Disrupts free-market competition
Sets a dangerous precedent for banning civilian technology without publicly verified findings
Consumers should not lose access to trusted tools based on assumptions rather than evidence.
2. Failure to Federal Audit and Review Available
Concerns cited in support of the National Defense Authorization Act were repeatedly accompanied by requirements that a comprehensive federal security audit or review of DJI products would be conducted. That audit was never completed, never published, and never made available for public or congressional review. No federal agency was ever made available for DJI to get this audit or review resulting in their products being added to the banned list.
Banning products without:
Completing the required audit
Publishing technical findings
Allowing independent, third-party verification
…undermines transparency, accountability, and public trust. Major technology restrictions must be evidence-based, not speculative.
3. Industry Leadership in Quality and Innovation
DJI is widely recognized as the global leader in drone and imaging technology, setting industry standards for safety, reliability, camera quality, and software innovation.
DJI products are used responsibly throughout the United States for:
Emergency response and disaster recovery
Search and rescue operations
Infrastructure inspection and agriculture
Filmmaking, journalism, and education
No domestic manufacturer currently offers comparable performance, reliability, and affordability at scale. Restricting access through the National Defense Authorization Act does not strengthen U.S. innovation—it limits it.
4. Economic Harm to American Workers and Businesses
This ban directly impacts:
Small businesses and independent contractors
Photographers, videographers, and journalists
Farmers, engineers, surveyors, and inspectors
Retailers, repair services, and training programs
Many Americans face unrecoverable financial losses, higher operating costs, and reduced competitiveness due to forced equipment replacement and supply disruption.
5. A Call for Evidence-Based Policy
If legitimate national security risks exist, they must be clearly identified, independently verified, and publicly supported by technical evidence. National security is strengthened through audits, standards, and oversight—not through broad prohibitions enacted without published findings.
6. Our Request
We urge policymakers to:
Suspend enforcement actions tied to the National Defense Authorization Act as they apply to civilian DJI products.
Complete and publish a full, independent federal security audit.
Restore consumer access absent verified risks.
Commit to transparent, evidence-based technology policy going forward.
The United States should lead with fairness, innovation, and facts—not fear or presumption.
End the DJI ban. Protect consumer choice.
