End inhumane treatment of horses in kill pens

End inhumane treatment of horses in kill pens
The Issue
Our story began with the hope of giving a horse a second chance at a loving home. When we decided to adopt from Fountain Hill Horse Company, a notorious kill pen in Arkansas, we imagined a future filled with care and compassion for our new family member. Sadly, our dreams were shattered when we received news that the condition of our horse was so severe that she did not survive long enough to make it to us.
This heartbreaking experience opened our eyes to a grim reality: horses in kill pens endure shocking and inhumane conditions. These noble animals, once cherished companions or valuable workers, are left to suffer in overcrowded and unsanitary environments, lacking basic necessities such as food, water, and medical care.
Every year, thousands of horses end up in these dreadful conditions, with many facing the grim fate of slaughter. According to the Humane Society, over 130,000 American horses are shipped to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico each year, with many of these horses coming from kill pens within the United States.
This atrocious treatment needs to end. Horses deserve dignity and respect, not a miserable end in a kill pen. We must advocate for stricter regulations and oversight for kill pens nationwide. The USDA and local authorities in Arkansas need to enforce existing animal welfare laws rigorously and establish more comprehensive legislation that prioritizes equine welfare.
We propose:
1. Regular inspections of kill pens to ensure humane treatment of horses.
2. Mandatory provision of adequate food, water, and veterinary care for all horses.
3. An adoption initiative to promote rehoming and reduce the number of horses sent to slaughter.
4. Strong penalties for operators who violate these standards.
Join us in calling for a change to end the suffering of horses in kill pens. By signing this petition, you can help us ensure that no more horses endure the tragic fate that our beloved horse did. Together, we can advocate for their welfare and push for lasting change. Please sign and share this petition widely.
