Subject: Petition to Acknowledge and Stop the Ongoing Genocide of Christians and Indigenous Peoples in Plateau State by Fulani Herdsmen

We, the over Ninety-Six Thousand (96,000) undersigned, concerned citizens of Nigeria and the global community, write with deep anguish and urgency to call for immediate and sustained action to end the systematic killing, displacement, and destruction of indigenous Christian communities in Plateau State, Nigeria.

For years, Fulani herdsmen — many of whom are armed, non-indigenous, and foreign-backed — have repeatedly attacked peaceful farming communities, primarily inhabited by Christians and indigenous ethnic groups. These acts include:

  1. Mass killings
  2. Burning of entire villages
  3. Destruction and occupation of ancestral farmlands
  4. Kidnappings and sexual violence
  5. Religious and ethnic cleansing
  6. Economic warfare
  7. Genocide

Despite countless attacks and mounting evidence, there has been no decisive action by the Nigerian government to protect these vulnerable communities. In many cases, security forces have been accused of inaction or complicity.

OUR DEMANDS

In light of these grave violations of human rights and threats to the very existence of indigenous peoples in Plateau State, we demand the following:

  1. Recognition of the Atrocities as Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing
We call upon the Nigerian government, international community, and human rights organizations to officially recognize the targeted violence against Christians and indigenous ethnic groups in Plateau State as genocide and crimes against humanity.
  2. Explicit Naming of the Fulani Herdsmen as Perpetrators
We demand that government and international reports, policy documents, and interventions explicitly name Fulani herdsmen as the primary perpetrators of these attacks. The failure to name them emboldens impunity.
  3. Immediate Ban on Open Grazing Across Plateau State and Nigeria
Open grazing must be permanently banned. It is not only an archaic practice in a modern state, but it has become a cover for violent land grabs and terror.
  4. Protection of Indigenous Peoples and Christian Rights
The Nigerian government must take full responsibility for the protection of indigenous communities' rights to life, land, religious freedom, and self-determination as guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution and international law.
  5. Reclamation and Restoration of Ancestral Lands
All farmlands and villages forcefully taken or occupied by Fulani herdsmen must be returned to their rightful indigenous owners. Those displaced must be safely resettled and compensated for loss of life, property, and livelihood.
  6. Deportation of Aggressive Fulani Immigrants and Foreign Terror Elements
Fulani immigrants and settlers who have proven to be violent or unwilling to coexist peacefully with indigenous peoples must be identified, disarmed, and deported where applicable. National borders must be secured to prevent further infiltration.
  7. International Pressure and Sanctions
We urge the international community to impose diplomatic pressure and targeted sanctions on Nigerian government officials who have failed to act or have enabled this genocide through negligence or complicity.

This petition is a cry for justice from communities that have endured unspeakable suffering. We ask all people of conscience, advocacy organizations, churches, political leaders, and international institutions to act now — not later — to stop the extermination of entire ethnic nationalities and faith groups in Plateau State.

Please find attached the signatures and comments of all the signatories to the petition.

Justice delayed is genocide denied.

Sincerely,

John Apollos Maton Esq. DRS. ChMC. ACIArb (UK). PAN. MA.
