End Discriminatory Biometric Checks for UK Citizens Travelling to EU Countries
The Issue
I am a UK passport holder, married to a Canadian. My husband enjoys the freedom to travel without enduring the harassment and indignity of being subject to fingerprinting and face scans, yet as a UK citizen, I am subjected to these draconian new travel requirements. This significant difference creates unnecessary resentment between us, as we are unable to travel together without feeling the weight of discrimination and prejudice against UK citizens.
To end this prejudice, blatant discrimination and racism against UK citizens please share this petition with your friends and family, and anyone who wants to fight for freedom and civil liberties without discrimination based on nationality.
In most countries in the EU and elsewhere, non-EU passport holders and citizens, such as those from Canada, are not required to provide fingerprinting or face scanning. This unequal treatment prevents UK citizens from enjoying the same freedom and civil liberties, painting us as potential lawbreakers rather than the vast majority of tourists and travellers that we are.
This policy does not target all countries equally. As such, it is not only discriminatory but also infringes on the personal freedoms of UK citizens. At present, about 1.3 million people from the UK live in EU countries and over 79 million tourist visits from UK to EU countries were recorded in 2020 despite the pandemic, further emphasizing the urgency of this issue (Office for National Statistics UK, 2021).
We implore EU lawmakers to revise this discriminatory regulation and align their biometric checking standards with those applied to other non-EU nations, ensuring they are fair and non-prejudiced against any particular nationality. Eliminating this difference in treatment will restore the freedom of UK citizens and allow families like mine to travel without distress.
Stand with us. Uphold the civil liberties of UK citizens. Sign this petition to call for an end to discriminatory biometric checks for UK citizens travelling to EU countries.
