I, Nerisha Ivalani Fotu (Niu), am a living testament to the horrific effects of the current system's failings. I am a victim of the severe anxiety, severe depression, emotional distress, fear, mental illness, chronic pain, fatigue, and a host of other symptoms as a result of the traumatic experiences I've endured in the Family Courts located in Maui, Hawaii.

Frustratingly, my story is far from an isolated incident. It is part of a disturbing trend in which unfair practices and abuses in the family courts across the United States, often lead to unimaginable amounts of suffering and trauma for the individuals involved. These processes do not protect the welfare of families as mandated by Law. They often exacerbate conflicts and deepen wounds, instead of fostering healing and resolution.

Reforms are urgently needed to ensure the fair administration of justice for all members of our community. We must prioritize evidence-based decision making, ethical practice enforcement, and emotional well-being of those involved. We stand together to demand change: for the countless others who share my pain, for the families torn apart by an unsympathetic system, and to ensure that future generations never have to endure the same fate.
