Encourage Palm Beach County to install a crosswalk on Congress Ave

The Issue

A few months ago, I witnessed a heart-wrenching scene: a disabled woman, maneuvering her motorized chair, struggled to cross the bustling Congress Avenue after she was assisted off a PalmTran bus. This poignant moment highlighted for me the dire need for safer pedestrian crossings in our community. However, the urgency for change was catapulted to the forefront of my mind with the tragic passing of a young life—a 14-year-old boy—on June 12, 2026, who lost his life attempting to cross this very stretch of road.

Congress Avenue in Boynton Beach, particularly at the juncture of Meadows Boulevard and Redford Road by Meadows Park, has become a hazard for pedestrians. The absence of a crosswalk in this critical area has endangered countless lives. A well-marked and accessible crosswalk would ensure the safety of residents, including children, the elderly, and those with disabilities, who all need to navigate this high-traffic area to reach vital amenities such as parks, schools, and public transportation stops.

Statistics underscore the peril: pedestrian fatalities in Florida are among the highest in the nation, with over 700 deaths in recent years, and Palm Beach County accounts for a substantial percentage of these. Our community cannot afford to wait for another tragedy to take action. Installing a crosswalk is a straightforward, impactful step that can save lives. It would serve as a commitment to resident safety and a proactive measure to prevent further loss.

By signing this petition, you're joining me in urging Palm Beach County's authorities to prioritize pedestrian safety on Congress Avenue by installing a crosswalk at Meadows Boulevard. Let's work together to ensure our streets foster not only movement but also safety and inclusion for all residents and visitors. Please sign and share this petition to make Boynton Beach a safer place for everyone.
