Eliminate Two-Factor Authorization for Concordia Student Accounts

Eliminate Two-Factor Authorization for Concordia Student Accounts
The Issue
As a student at Concordia University in Montreal, I am constantly frustrated by the requirement to input a verification code every time I access my MOODLE or any other student accounts. This process, known as two-factor authorization, is not only inconvenient but also disrupts our learning experience.
Two-factor authorization was implemented with the intention of enhancing security. However, it has become an unnecessary burden for students who need to quickly access their accounts for academic purposes. According to a study by Google in 2019, 90% of Gmail users don't use two-step verification due to its inconvenience (source: Google Security Blog). We believe that similar sentiments are shared among Concordia students.
We understand the importance of online security but we urge the administration to consider alternatives that balance both convenience and safety. For instance, implementing biometric authentication or allowing trusted devices could be potential solutions.
This issue affects all students at Concordia University - those living on-campus and off-campus alike - totaling over 50,000 individuals (source: Concordia University Official Statistics). It's time we address this issue head-on.
We call upon the IT department at Concordia University to eliminate two-factor authorization from MOODLE and other student accounts/websites. Let's make accessing our educational resources less frustrating and more efficient! Sign this petition if you agree!
