Good evening!

As a fair warning, this email will be a little lengthy, so get comfortable while reading.

I finally got a letter back from Senator Burr, who I have been trying to contact since early October. In that message, I hit on the issues of the sales tax in North Carolina, accessibility in prisons, etc., and I had also mentioned the Menstrual Equity for All Act, which is inclusive of the areas I just stated.

Here is the response that I received from Senator Burr:

Dear Ms. Davis,

Thank you for contacting me about sales taxes on feminine products in North Carolina. I appreciate hearing from you again on this issue.

The sales tax in North Carolina is a combination of state and local sales taxes that are approved by state and local governments; the federal government does not have a sales tax. While I appreciate your concerns and your letters on this subject, I do not have federal jurisdiction over state and local tax matters. For this reason, I recommend you contact your state and local representatives. The contact information for state officials is provided below:

[ Insert Office of the Governor contact information]

[ Insert North Carolina General Assembly contact information]

Again, thank you for contacting me. Should you have additional questions or comments, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Richard Burr

United States Senator

As I had been waiting for months to hear back from him--as well as Senator Tillis-- I was a little disappointed by the response. Honestly, the points in my letters were not all addressed to my satisfaction, but in the end, this is another reason to push on.

Sorry for the long email! Keep on the lookout for my next update from my conversation with Rep. Dahle.

Best,

Troi
