As a concerned parent in Calgary, AB, Canada, I believe that our children's sleep and overall well-being should be prioritized. The current structure of the curriculum in CBE schools includes opinion-based classes which often start early in the morning. This schedule hampers our children's ability to get adequate sleep.

Research has shown that lack of sufficient sleep can negatively impact a child's academic performance and health (American Academy of Sleep Medicine). By eliminating these early morning opinion-based classes, we can ensure that our kids get the rest they need to succeed both acadically and personally.

Furthermore, these classes do not contribute significantly to their core educational development. Instead of focusing on subjects like Math or Science which are fundamental for their future careers, students spend precious time discussing subjective topics.

Therefore, we call upon the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) to reconsider its curriculum structure. We urge them to remove opinion-based classes from all CBE schools and replace them with more academically beneficial courses or allow for later school start times. This change will not only improve our children’s academic performance but also their physical health and emotional well-being.
