I’m someone who loves travelling, exploring new cultures, immersing myself in the richness of different landscapes. Like many, I too dreamed about seeing the world. However, one significant hurdle that keeps arising is the so-called 'single supplement'. This surcharge levied on solo travellers is unjust and often makes the cost of travelling alone nearly double of what a couple would pay for the same holiday.

This is not an issue affecting me alone. There are millions of solo travellers across the world who finds themselves in this exact same situation. In fact, according to the US Travel Association, solo travellers are one of the fastest-growing demographics in the travel sector, accounting for 11% of all adult leisure travellers in 2019.

Discrimination should not have a place in the travel industry. Everyone, regardless of marital status or companions, should have equal access to travel opportunities. We wish to draw attention to this predicament and call for the elimination of these unfair single traveller supplements.

In order to achieve a more equitable environment for all travellers, we call upon travel agencies and providers to rethink their pricing structures. By deep-sixing single supplements, we can encourage more people to explore the world and embrace travel as an avenue for personal growth and enrichment.
