Save the Student Vote

Elections Calgary is denying students the opportunity to vote on their campuses during the advance voting period ahead of the upcoming municipal election on October 18th. This decision is short sighted, and it means that students will have a harder time accessing the polls when it is time to vote. It also means that voting will be less accessible than the last election in 2017. That’s unacceptable. Elections Calgary should make it easier for all Calgarians to vote, not more difficult.
The program is called "Vote Anywhere" and it allows students and all Calgarians to vote when and where it best suits them. The stations were used in 2017, and advance votes cast nearly tripled from the previous election in 2013.
This decision will depress voter turnout, it will make voting difficult for students, and it will deter students from voting entirely. There is no excuse or justification for jeopardizing the student and university community voice this October. Elections Calgary has ignored City Council and has ignored the voices of 90,000 post-secondary students calling for Vote Anywhere to return.
SAVE THE STUDENT VOTE with the Vote Anywhere Advance Vote by signing this petition and raising awareness of the voices that Elections Calgary is ignoring.
