Maintaining the CX3 flight equipment for ATPL Theory Exams
Maintaining the CX3 flight equipment for ATPL Theory Exams
The Issue
As an air transport pilot license theory student (ATPL), several pieces of equipment are required for exams as support throughout the long road to becoming an airline pilot. Currently, the use of a mechanical computer known as a ‘Wizz Wheel Or CRP5’ is used to obtain key parameters of flight per exam questions that may appear throughout the ATPL syllabus. As an alternative to this piece of equipment, the ‘CX3 electronic flight computer’ has been in force for ATPL exams for a while with the Austro Control authorities who have permitted its use up to now however with EASA’s intervention, they have forbidden the use of this equipment for exams. This petition is to combat the decision made by EASA and Austro control to use the CX3 computer. The benefits the CX3 has to a students’ success in the exams is that it provides the ability to plug in parameters to find a direct answer as you would typically need to find on the flight deck, operating as commercial crew on commercial airliner aircraft, a piece of technology that very similarly replicates the ease of calculation during modern day operations of commercial aircraft. The wizz wheel/CRP5 is a piece of equipment that has no relatability in todays flying on large commercial aircraft, I therefore ask of you to support this petition to allow the continuing use of the CX3 computer that will benefit students and also future calculations for practical purposes, further allowing support and guidance to future atpl theory students for the atpl theory exams. Thank you.
