Dawn Shayes started this petition to DVSA and

There is a shortage of commercial vehicle drivers.

There are many men and women who wish to train to drive trucks in order to get a decent job and provide a much needed service. One of the major reasons for the current shortage of drivers is the acute  and worsening shortage of driving tests. This has been made even more difficult by the ongoing virus situation.

To ease this situation recognised and approved driver training schools should be allowed to have their own examiners and conduct vocational driving tests in house in the same way bus companies have been allowed to for many years. In turn this would free up more driving examiners to provide tests for people needing car and motorcycle driving tests. If this solution is not adopted the shortage of drivers will impact on vital services and everyone’s way of life. It will also force more people to remain jobless and affect an already badly damaged economy.

We passionately believe that the current system should be changed in order that people desperately seeking work should not be disadvantaged by the current archaic system.
