Aston Academy have recently changed their uniform policy which has caused an uproar among parents and students alike!

Whilst some of the out-linings of this are fair the majority is not!

My daughter went to school today in policy approved footwear and a policy approved skirt however she was sent to reflection as they were not allowed to be worn together?

I went up to the school this morning as I didn’t agree with them! When I arrived there were a substantial amount of parents and students either in reception or outside waiting to speak with a member of staff due to their children also being penalised for things that had been set out in the schools policy!

There were students crying and all staff would say was its school policy.

I’m sure many of you will understand the No branded shoes as this can cause upset amongst students but what they are doing is way worse!

THINGS NEED TO CHANGE! It shouldn’t matter that a child’s trouser leg is tight round the ankle (Boys as well as girls were getting put into reflection for this) or that ‘boots’ don’t match a skirt or that a shoe that is all black has a air hole in them making them breathable!

All the above DOES NOT affect the child’s learning or according to the school it does?! It’s got to a point where the children are not going to learn anything as most parents cannot afford to go out and buy new uniform yet again when the policy was adhered to in the first place because they are all going to be put into reflection.

Take a look at other schools in the areas policy they don’t fall inline with Astons.

Fat and Thin shaming by teaching staff to students is unacceptable also the mental health of students is being ignored. AS in my child’s case.

WE NEED TO ACT NOW! We are 4 days into the academic year and I along with many other parents have had to take their children home therefore depriving them of an education! Today the 11th of September will be the worst day for the school’s attendance statistics by far!

I don’t want to say let them wear what they want but a little in fact a lot of lenience in the policy needs to be had!

Aston Academy is part of a trust which no longer comes under Rotherham Council.

It is being treated like a commercial enterprise. Money to fund comes from the government.

In a meeting today a reason for school uniform policy was “ to promote a professional appearance for when they leave school” and to educate them on the need for uniforms. Meeting Ofsted report and scoring points is more important to the school.

Being sheep comes to mind.... control ...... not allowed to be individual.... control..... draconian methods.... control ....

NOT anything about the child’s education was mentioned in the meeting.
