Aggiornamento sulla petizioneEnd Tarion’s new home warranty monopoly NOW: Give Ontarians a choice! The Wynne Government is Still Stalling re Overhauling Tarion - But an Election is Coming!

Justice Cunningham's 37 recommendations in his Tarion Review final report, once implemented, will basically dismantle the Tarion that we know today. Hallelujah! It is so gratifying to know that Justice Cunningham "gets" it.
Unbelievably, however, the Wynne Government is still continuing to drag its feet related to Justice Cunningham's Tarion Review recommendations.
First of all, it has selected only a few of Justice Cunningham's recommendations, and even with those, based on the Wynne Government's approach, it is estimated that it will be 2019/2020 until they are implemented (both the legislation and related regulations are required for implementation).
And THEN according to Minister MacCharles' April 26, 2017 letter, after progress and results can be assessed (perhaps 2024 or 2025?) the Wynne Government may research and consider the other recommendations. With this, we could be looking to about 2030 for further legislative changes, along with the regulations for implementation.
This is obviously deeply concerning and clearly unacceptable from a consumer protection perspective.
Justice Cunningham has already conducted the Tarion Review; he studied the matter for more than a year. The framework for the necessary regulations should already be clear. Any further consultations should be about fine-tuning, not an entirely new review process. The Wynne Government should be working on both the legislation and the regulations right now - and both can and should be completed before the 2018 election.
It is important to remember that many Ontario families are suffering due to inadequate consumer protection. And why should about 50,000 new Ontario families a year continue to pay full price for a broken warranty system?
Premier Wynne has been talking a lot about "fairness". The approach outlined by Minister MacCharles and her policy advisor, Ed Steel, certainly is not "fair" to Ontario's consumers.
Minister MacCharles has been talking a lot about "putting consumers first". The approach outlined by her and Mr. Steel certainly is not "putting Ontario's consumers first".
Here's how you can help at this point - four ways:
1. Ask everyone you know to sign this petition to End Tarion's Monopoly now. (Ending Tarion's monopoly is NOT one of the recommendations accepted by Minister MacCharles.) Premier Wynne (and others) are notified every time someone signs this petition. Every signature counts! We are trying to get at least 1,000 signatures.
2. Write to your own MPP now and tell him/her that you want to see all of Justice Cunningham's recommendations promptly implemented.
3. With the 2018 Ontario provincial election already gearing up, ask every party, and every candidate running: "If elected, will your party promptly implement Justice Cunningham's 37 Tarion Review recommendations? If not, why not?" - And then send the responses by e-mail to CPBH at info@canadiansforproperlybuilthomes.com.
4. Ask everyone you know to carry out the above three requests!
Let's make this an Ontario Election Issue!
