PFC Glendon Oakley Jr. was reported to have evacuated, sheltered and or protected children during the El Paso Walmart shooting while shopping at the Cilo Vista Mall that is located at the other end of the parking lot. PFC. Oakley had no way of determining if the threat was isolated across the parking lot or if the shooter was making his way towards his location. Nevertheless, PFC. Oakley relied on his foundation of Army values and distinguished himself by selflessly putting the safety of those most vulnerable before himself. Those of us who’s sign this petition ask that the Soldier’s Medal be considered and that consideration not be downgraded less than a Meritorious Service Medal.
