Don't sent more troops to Afganistan
Don't sent more troops to Afganistan
The Issue
I don't know if the president reads this however I think he should choose not to send more troops to Afganistan.
Reasons:
1. Sending more troops does not fit in the strategy of fighting alqaeda
2. The US just does not have the finacial resources to continue fighting this war on such a large scale. It's not honorable to be borrowing money to fight a war. US is actually loosing it's global strength by continuing to fight a war that has no end since it is an ideological war.
What should be done is that the war should be scaled down and negotiations begin with the taliban to see how an acceptable living arrangement can be made with the taliban and the moderate afganistans. Remember you can't fight an ideology with guns and bombs (the taliban is not a threat against the US, alqaeda is)
3. The US Army needs time to rebuild and rejuvinate.
4. The US needs to maintain a substancial number of troops at home to protect the homeland against a potential attack.
5. The US army needs to be in a position where it can respond to a greater crisis somewhere else in the world while ensuring that there is more troops available to protect the homeland.
It's very possible that a war will break out with Iran (started by Israel) and the US will have to get involved wheather the US like it or not.
6. No more troop request should be granted until a substancial draw down in Iraq has been completed.
In making this decision the president shouldn't worry about being re-elected or public opinion. Since the public is not privi to the information he has in making his decision.
Also this decision requires that he makes it right even if the public does not like it.
This decision I think is the biggest decision that the president has to make. Since a bad decision here can either break the US or start the healing financially and militarily.
