As the Nevada State Legislature convenes a special legislative session to close an $800 million budget gap, dozens of important public services are on the chopping block. Among the programs threatened with de-funding is the Nevada Department of Agriculture Organics Program. 

The Organics Program consists of one tireless state worker who travels all over the state to analyze farms that wish to attain organic certification at a lower cost than they could get by contracting with outside certifiers. Organic certification allows these farmers to access premium prices for their goods, which helps them compete with conventional producers who externalize the costs of non-organic production to the rest of society. 

Eliminating this low-cost program will not address the State's budget woes, but it would eviscerate the slow but steady push for organics in Nevada. Please take action now to save the Organics Program and Nevada's organics sector.
