We recently spoke with a County Commissioner and he said that we will soon get an update that will explain why this will likely not end until 2030. According to someone who is close to the government officials working on this, they will take a strike at us as property owners to take a portion of our property by eminent domain. This process alone will take a lot of time especially because we will be fighting them. This road was built and managed by the County for over a century. If they kept better track of their responsibility, the necessary preventative maintenance would have avoided this whole situation. For many, this is a nice 3 minute break from a road trip. For some, it is a short lived inconvenience that is quickly forgotten about as life takes hold. For us, it is a disaster that will now cost us tens of thousands of dollars to protect our rights and property. Many of you fought and served our country to keep it FREE and beautiful. This tyrannical act could have been avoided if they managed this problem over the years. Now it is our problem. They put 2 traffic lights in a town that has no police presence. We have no active police department, but the Township now spends $30K per year to the County (the same folks that planted these very expensive devices on our road) to police the roads. This is a travesty and it is just another great example of government gone awry. We can definitely do better than this. Imagine this, that a government official made this decision in less than 10 days, but it will take them 7+ years to resolve it. Absolutely ridiculous! In the meantime, we will do a better job to provide some entertainment while you wait by the light. We will plant some more beautiful flowers, maybe set up some nice music, a refreshment stand, and any other amenities that will make your short stay more pleasant. If you have any ideas on how to best resolve this situation, we would love to hear it.
Stillwater Deserves Better.
Our town needs new leadership—urgently. We’re facing serious issues that have gone unaddressed or been poorly handled for too long:
A school system with a bloated budget.
A Township Committee that welcomes two new County traffic lights—despite the fact that we don’t even have a local police force, yet we pay the County who blessed us with the lights over $30,000 annually for road patrols.
A steady conversion of our commercial zones into residential properties, choking out local business opportunities. The planning board and zoning board of adjustment are counseled by a lawyer who has a checkered past and is only interested in lining his pockets instead of making this community better.
A process that makes property owners wait a full year to use historic buildings, like the former church that's been active since 1834.
A zoning officer keeping a former bank closed over a dispute about one parking space—despite its use since the 1950s. Most violations he writes are overturned. These bogus violations cost property owners hard earned money.
Thousands of taxpayer dollars spent on a recreation center, while we neglect our legal obligation to plan for affordable housing. We could happily welcome disabled veterans to our community who served with valor to keep places like Stillwater a great place to raise a family, run a business or simply just live in peace.
Enough is enough.
Stillwater is a beautiful, historic place. We deserve a government that respects its residents, encourages small business, and manages tax dollars responsibly. There is one seat open on the Township Committee this year. Let’s elect someone who owns property, runs a business, and contributes to our community—someone who will lead with common sense and compassion.
Weaponizing the law to bully residents is not leadership—it’s sadistic. Together, we can fix this. Together, we can clean up the years of mismanagement.
Let’s turn the page. Let’s do better—for all of Stillwater.
