Safe Routes to School For Garibaldi Highlands Elementary

The Boulevard, a residential street with Jura Park to the South and Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School to the North has become a highway to Quest University, the University development and the recreational trails above.  I have regularly witnessed vehicles travelling at speeds in excess of 80km/h, several near-hits and on Saturday May 23rd, 2020 a toddler was hit by a car in the crosswalk on The Boulevard between Kintyre Drive and Highlands Way North.  It is unacceptable that the District of Squamish has not implemented a school and/or playground speed zone on The Boulevard between the lower round-about at the top of Highlands Way South and Perth Drive, installed traffic speed control measures, such as speed humps like the ones on Skyline Drive, and allowed the University development to expand without a secondary access to Quest and the lands above via Mamquam FSR.  Furthermore the District is considering community engagement and traffic calming for Highlands Way North but NOT The Boulevard.  I personally witness thousands of residents, students, their parents and other family members access Highlands Way Elementary from The Boulevard year-round.  Please sign this petition and let the DOS know that they need to consider and engage users on ALL of the school access routes around Garibaldi Highlands Elementary! (The Boulevard, Highlands Way North and Perth Drive)
