The Issue

Daily commuting from Huron Park in Kitchener to the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Conestoga College is inefficient, unreliable, and unnecessarily time-consuming. Many commuters spend up to 2.5 hours each day traveling, which significantly reduces time available for academic responsibilities, part-time employment, rest, and personal well-being. The lack of a direct route, combined with indirect transfers and poorly aligned bus schedules, makes commuting highly unpredictable, stressful, and difficult to manage on a daily basis.

Main Points That Require Change

  • Current routes require multiple transfers, commonly involving Bus 33 followed by Bus 201 or Bus 12.
  • Missing a bus by as little as one minute can result in delays of up to 40 minutes, causing students to be late for classes, exams, labs, and part-time jobs.
  • Students working part-time in Waterloo are especially affected, as unreliable transit threatens punctuality, income, and job security.
  • Increasing enrollment across all three institutions has intensified overcrowding and exposed gaps in the existing transit network.
  • Daily commuters traveling from Kitchener to Toronto also depend on predictable local transit; delays within Kitchener often lead to missed GO Train or bus connections, extending commute times even further.

    Call to Action

  • Establish a direct bus route connecting Huron Park (Kitchener) to the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Conestoga College and kitchner go.
  • Improve schedule coordination to increase service frequency, reduce missed connections, and minimize long wait times.
  • Take immediate action to support students, staff, and residents who rely on public transit daily.

By supporting this petition, you are advocating for a more efficient, equitable, and commuter-focused public transportation system that reflects the real needs of the Kitchener–Waterloo community.
