Curve the NYS Chemistry Regents

The Issue

The NYS Chemistry regents is a assessment offered by the state in order to assess a students ability in the curriculum. However, the Chemistry regents do not offer a curve which gives students a better opportunity of passing the test. The requirements are often a score of 50/85 questions in order to pass with a score of 65%. (Most students need this score in order to meet graduation requirements if the  Living Environment Regents requirements aren’t fulfilled)

Based off of statistics, on average around less half of most schools pass this Exam. Results shown from  (https://projects.newsday.com/schools/stats/regents/physical-setting-chemistry/2017 ).

The reasoning behind this petition is to give the students a better chances of succeeding and to encourage consistency throughout all regents. What fairness is there in having a curve for the Living Environment Regents,but not The Chemistry Regents which is expressed to be one of the hardest subjects to comprehend.

In addition, discussions have been made expressing NEGATIVE curves. Which are to give students lower grades than they deserve to decrease the amount of passing students. This is absurd, tests are meant to test our knowledge. They shouldn’t be be used to put students at a disadvantage.
