Demand UK Elected Politicians to Earn Living Wage and Reside in their Constituency

Demand UK Elected Politicians to Earn Living Wage and Reside in their Constituency
The Issue
This is not just a demand. It is a story, it is personal to me as it is to many individuals who have fallen victim to the contrasting lifestyles that exist between politicians and their constituents. Laws are set, and then mistakenly bypassed by a select few. Countless individuals are consistently told that the living wage is sufficient for a normal life. If this is the case, why not have our policymakers also live by these standards?
I am calling for all elected politicians in the UK to earn only the living wage. This brings us to a point of equality, reinforcing the belief that those who pass our laws should not be immune to the realities of their constituents. Furthermore, politicians must have lived and continue to live in the constituency they wish to represent. This will ensure they truly understand the people and environments they are making decisions for.
Lastly, their living situation should reflect our own experiences - moratorium on multiple homes. They must stick to one home, with a small expense budget closely monitored and controlled.
According to The High Pay Centre of the UK government, an MP's current basic salary is £79,468, which is about three times the national average income of 27,600. While the Living Wage as defined by the Living Wage Foundation represents a wage that meets the essential needs and provides a modest yet adequate living standard which is calculated to be £9.50 across the UK and £10.85 in London. This disparity must end.
These changes will not only impart a greater understanding of constituents' daily experiences on our politicians, but will also give them a first-hand experience of the laws they advocate for the public. This campaign is about fairness, representation, and connecting lawmakers with their constituents. We demand change. Sign this petition to bring about this much-needed reform.
