The Issue

I have requested a copy of the amended constitution from the mosque secretary.

The response I have received from the TWICA’s secretary was very disappointing: “…I would like to clarify that, as you are not a member of the Tunbridge Wells Islamic and Cultural Association, we are not obliged—either by law or otherwise—to provide a copy of the constitution as this is only for members of the 25 Committee Members…”.

This lack of transparency regarding its constitution and operational framework, leaving many of us in the community in the dark.

The foundation of any charitable organization, especially one as integral as our cultural and religious hubs, lies in transparency and accountability.

The Tunbridge Wells Islamic and Cultural Association has not disclosed its governing constitution to the public.

As community members, we have the right to understand how decisions are made.

According to the Charity Commission's guidelines, charities must openly communicate about their governance structures.

An updated constitution shared publicly would demonstrate TWICA’s commitment to charity best practices.

It is essential we all feel assured that the TWICA operates with integrity and accountability, reflecting the principles it espouses.

This petition seeks to compel the Tunbridge Wells Islamic and Cultural Association to disclose its updated constitution to ensure accountability, transparency, and rebuild public confidence in its operations and governance.

Join me in calling for openness about the organization's structure by signing this petition today.

Let’s work together towards a transparent and responsible community institution that we can all be proud of.
