The Issue

As someone deeply concerned about the prevalence of domestic abuse, I am appalled that TikTok is providing a platform, promoting and profiting from a convicted abuser like Daniel Sloan (@diadroislive). This man has been found guilty of abusing women, yet he is allowed to disseminate his harmful rhetoric on a platform accessed by thousands.

Evidence posted on TikTok warning the community about the dangers and risks associated with supporting this individual are swiftly removed. Yet, they have permitted six 10-minute videos in which he minimises gender-based violence, engages in victim-blaming and promotes misogyny.

Not only is Diadro using TikTok's platform to disseminate harmful views and profit off vulnerable followers, he refuses to take accountability for abusive behaviors. His 6 part series reveal his lack of empathy for victims along with a refusal to acknowledge the deep trauma inflicted from violence. Donations he made to Rape Crisis Scotland had to be returned due to violations of ethical fundraising policies.

This further highlights the need for immediate action from TikTok. Continuing to provide a platform and revenue stream for an unrepentant abuser who has caused significant harm sends a dangerous message. Allowing Diadro's rhetoric to reach impressionable audiences risks normalizing dismissive attitudes about gender-based violence. By failing to intervene, TikTok also facilitates the exploitation of trauma for financial gain.

This situation sends an alarming message across Glasgow and the wider UK that domestic abuse is somehow acceptable. It's not okay! We need to support survivors.

In Scotland alone, Police recorded 38,438 incidents of domestic abuse in 2022-23 (source: Scottish Government). Each incident represents a person suffering at the hands of their abuser - we cannot allow platforms like TikTok to normalize or trivialize such behavior.

The increasing number of reported domestic abuse incidents highlights this as an ongoing systemic issue that requires continued vigilance and action. Allowing convicted perpetrators like Daniel Sloan to promote misogyny and engage in victim-blaming enables further harm. TikTok must be held accountable for providing a platform that reaches youth audiences and influences attitudes on violence. Urgent intervention is critical.

Standing against domestic abuse means not just removing violent content, but also denying abusers access to tools for manipulation. Diadro's presence is an affront to victims seeking justice and a community free from harm. TikTok must demonstrate zero tolerance for both physical and psychological abuse as well as active exploitation of the vulnerable. This starts with removing Daniel Sloan's account.
