Demand the Resignation of VA Secretary Doug Collins
The Issue
We write this petition with heavy hearts and a profound sense of disappointment. The struggles faced by many veterans and veteran families are being compounded by a system that should exist to support them. This is not just a veteran's issue—it is a responsibility shared by every veteran, military family, and American taxpayer. Those who served our country deserve fair treatment, accountability, and a Department of Veterans Affairs that lives up to its mission.
Across the country, veterans continue to report legitimate grievances involving retaliation, mistreatment, neglect, disability discrimination, civil rights violations, violations of VA policy and federal law, and failures in the complaint process. Many describe being routed through endless bureaucratic dead ends instead of receiving meaningful review, while the very issues they reported are never fully addressed on their merits. Instead, complaints are too often narrowed, mischaracterized, or redirected into administrative matters that fail to examine the underlying allegations. These concerns deserve independent scrutiny and meaningful accountability.
Many veterans who attempt to challenge these failures also discover another obstacle: finding legal representation. For many forms of administrative misconduct, civil rights concerns, and institutional accountability issues within the VA, veterans report tremendous difficulty locating attorneys willing or able to pursue these matters, leaving many to navigate an extraordinarily complex federal system on their own while the government has virtually unlimited legal resources at its disposal.
Another significant obstacle is the perception of government impunity. Many veterans believe that when VA employees or providers exceed their authority, disregard established policy, or violate veterans' rights, meaningful accountability rarely follows. We believe that government employees who are found, through appropriate legal or administrative processes, to have acted outside the scope of their lawful duties, professional responsibilities, or applicable standards should be held meaningfully accountable under the law. Accountability protects veterans, strengthens public trust, and helps prevent future misconduct.
Collectively, our experiences have led us to conclude that Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins has been placed on notice of these systemic concerns through direct complaints, congressional inquiries, and White House engagement. Despite that notice, we have not seen corrective action sufficient to restore confidence in the Department or meaningfully address the widespread concerns being raised by veterans across the country. Leadership carries the responsibility not only to establish policy but to ensure those policies are faithfully implemented throughout the Department.
We believe this failure stands in direct conflict with the administration's stated commitment to care for America's veterans. While veterans continue to report retaliation, mistreatment, discrimination, civil rights violations, and unresolved grievances, meaningful institutional reform has not followed. Instead, many veterans believe the Department has become increasingly focused on defending itself through administrative and legal processes rather than ensuring that allegations are fully and impartially investigated. This perception continues to erode public confidence in the VA and the protections veterans should expect while receiving care.
Veteran families across the country have shared accounts of delayed care, retaliation, administrative failures, and experiences that have left them questioning whether the system is protecting veterans or protecting itself. Some families who have lost loved ones to suicide have publicly expressed concerns regarding the VA's handling of their cases and the barriers they encountered while seeking accountability. Every unresolved grievance, every failure to investigate legitimate complaints, and every missed opportunity for corrective action further undermines the trust veterans place in the institution created to serve them.
We further note that these concerns have been brought to the attention of officials within the White House. We respectfully ask the Administration to ensure these reports receive independent review and that appropriate corrective action is taken wherever the evidence supports it. The American people deserve confidence that veterans' complaints involving misconduct, civil rights violations, and systemic failures are being addressed honestly, thoroughly, and without institutional bias.
Our veterans deserve a Department of Veterans Affairs that is transparent, accountable, and worthy of the sacrifices they have made. Rebuilding public trust requires leadership willing to confront institutional problems directly, ensure legitimate complaints are investigated on their merits, and hold individuals accountable whenever the evidence demonstrates misconduct or violations of veterans' rights.
For these reasons, we respectfully call for the immediate resignation of Secretary Doug Collins and for new leadership committed to restoring accountability, transparency, integrity, and public confidence within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
If you believe America's veterans deserve a system that places their welfare above bureaucracy, we ask you to sign this petition and share it with others. Together, we can demand meaningful reform, genuine accountability, and a Department of Veterans Affairs that truly serves those who have served our nation.
