The Prime Minister’s approach to governance has neglected the values of inclusivity and multiculturalism that Australia stands for. Instead of fostering unity, the divisive rhetoric and actions have created an environment where Semitic communities feel unwelcome and unsafe. According to a recent study by the Australian Human Rights Commission, reported incidents of anti-Semitic discrimination have risen by 30% over the past year, a statistic that is both alarming and unacceptable.
The impact of these policies is felt in schools, workplaces, and social settings, creating an atmosphere filled with fear and uncertainty. Many from our community have reported experiencing verbal and physical abuse, with little to no action taken by authorities to address these concerns or to ensure the safety and well-being of those targeted.
It is time for change, and that change must start at the top. We must hold our leaders accountable and demand leadership that reflects the diverse tapestry of cultures and ethnicities that form the backbone of our great nation. It is crucial that the person holding the highest office in our land be committed to upholding justice, equality, and respect for all Australians, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds.
