Anita Among is currently serving as the Speaker of Parliament in Uganda, a position she should hold with integrity and sincere care for the good of the country. Disturbing allegations of corruption have been associated with her, which put the credibility of her office and, ultimately, the democratic fabric of Uganda in question. Moreover, it's been reported that peaceful protestors against this alleged corruption have been arrested unlawfully. These citizens were merely exercising their right to freedom of speech and peaceful assembly, rights that are inscribed in the Constitution of Uganda. This petition is appealing for Anita Among's resignation and a thorough investigation into the corruption allegations against her. We also seek the release of those protestors who were unfairly apprehended. In a country with a Corruption Perceptions Index score of 26 out of 100 (Transparency International, 2023), we must fight vigorously against any form of corruption to build a more transparent and accountable Uganda.
