In my personal capacity as a concerned citizen, I have keenly watched every press briefing, appalled by the flagrant use of Orwellian doublespeak and victim-blaming that is on display from the current White House Press Secretary. This, frankly, is an episode of utter shame for our democratic institution. Our White House Press Secretary is supposed to represent, inform, and uphold the truth, and it's heartbreaking to see such a blatant misuse of this position for the spreading of propaganda, lies, and biased statements.

Even more alarming is the intimidation and banning of the Associated Press, a reputable news outlet, while voicing known extremist and dangerous organizations. This tarnishes the sanctity and credibility of the media landscape, promoting a culture of fear and impeding the freedom of the press.

With a recent study by George Washington University highlighting the rising trend and impact of misinformation in our society, it is clear that we can no longer stand and watch this gross misuse of power continue (GWU, 2020).

It's time for a change. It's time for honesty. It's time the White House’s Press Secretary to carry out her duties with integrity, respectful dialogue, and transparency she pledged to uphold.
