Demand State Amnesty for Maryland Tolls, Parking Tickets, Fines and Penalties

Demand State Amnesty for Maryland Tolls, Parking Tickets, Fines and Penalties
The Issue
Born Marylander, forced to work while most of America sheltered at home amid the pandemic. Toll collection was briefly halted, but eventually reactivated. Like many other Marylanders, I had no luxury of sheltering at home safe from the pandemic. Using Maryland toll routes was a daily necessity for us to get to and from work. When asked to settle the toll bill, the sum was astronomical, beyond my means. As a consequence, my single-parent home has been slapped with a $30,000 garnishment, which is more than half my yearly income. A financial burden of such magnitude leaves us scrambling to make ends meet.
Many people in our state now face similar situations. These tickets, tolls, and fines supposed to fund critical public infrastructure now instead threaten our livelihoods, homes, and families. It is a drastic punishment that simply doesn't fit the 'crime.'
We desperately need relief. We urge our state to implement an amnesty program that would forgive the debt for these tolls, tickets, and fines. Let's stand together and advocate for rules that meet the reality of our times and that of struggling Marylanders. Please sign this petition and help us plead with our state leaders for an amnesty of this debt.
