William Claiborne Ferguson IV is a dedicated American politician, attorney, and former educator, serving as a Democratic member of the Maryland Senate since 2011. Representing the 46th legislative district, which includes parts of Baltimore City, Ferguson has been the President of the Maryland Senate since January 8, 2020. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Davidson College and earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland. Before his tenure in the Senate, Ferguson worked as a community liaison at the Baltimore City Council President’s Office, taught U.S. history and government at the high school level, and held strategic roles, including Special Assistant to the CEO at Baltimore City Public Schools and Director of Reform Initiatives at Johns Hopkins University School of Education.
