The Issue

I recently witnessed an advert from Tena featuring a woman in her knickers with a Tena panty liner inside, followed by another scene with a woman on a toilet, inserting a panty liner. Compounding my outrage was an Always advertisement, depicting a woman turning over in bed with a visible sanitary towel. These adverts are beyond degrading and disgusting! All women comprehend these products' purposes and know where to purchase them without needing overt, graphic reminders broadcasted on TV and social media.

The portrayal of women and their intimate products in such an explicit manner is unnecessary and invasive. Women live with these health realities every day, and suggestively plastering such imagery across screens doesn’t educate or inform—it belittles and embarrasses. As consumers, we demand that companies such as Tena and Always reevaluate the appropriateness and sensitivity of their advertising strategies.

According to Statista, female hygiene product sales hit over 22 billion U.S. dollars in 2020. With such tremendous influence in the market, both Tena and Always have the power and responsibility to lead with dignity and respect in their advertising. It's time to prioritize discretion and empathy, reshaping how these essential products are communicated to the masses.

Revolutionizing these advertising practices not only serves the dignity of millions of women worldwide but enhances brand reputability. We urge Tena and Always to adopt advertising guidelines focusing on sensitivity, understanding, and respect for their consumer base.

Support this cause by signing the petition to catalyze the necessary change in how women’s sanitary products are marketed. Advocate for advertisements that respect the intelligence and dignity of all women. Together, let's revise how femininity is portrayed and champion more considerate advertising practices.
